Ploughshare and KeTech sign Licence Agreement for Nerve Agent Technology.

February 2012

As part of continuing to develop specialist solutions for Nerve Agent detection, KeTech has today signed an agreement with Ploughshare Innovations to licence technology from the Defence Science & Technology Laboratory (Dstl).

OBE for MoD Scientist

January 2012

A Ministry of Defence scientist has been awarded an OBE in the Queen’s New Year’s
Honours List in recognition of his contribution to world-leading armour protection work.

DSTL announces new CEO

December 2011

THE DEFENCE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY LABORATORY NAMES NEW CHIEF
EXECUTIVE
The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) has announced the successor to its
Chief Executive, Frances Saunders.
Jonathan Lyle, who is currently the Director of the Programme Office at Dstl, will take up the
appointment in March 2012.

Tata Steel and Ploughshare sign deal to produce new Super Bainite Armour Steel

September 2011

The UK now has its own onshore supply of high-performance armour steel, thanks to a UK invention and a new manufacturing agreement.
Known as super bainite, the new armour steel has been developed to have outstanding ballistics properties and, in tests, it has performed better than ‘normal’ steel armour.
Ploughshare Innovations has signed a licensing agreement with Tata Steel to manufacture the steel in the UK.

QUEEN’S BIRTHDAY HONOUR FOR DSTL CEO

July 2011

Dr Frances Saunders, Chief Executive of the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory
(Dstl) at Porton Down in Wiltshire has been made a Companion of the Order of the Bath
(CB).

MOD SCIENTISTS NOMINATED FOR NATIONAL AWARD

June 2011

Wiltshire-based scientists from the Defence Science and Technology
Laboratory (Dstl) have been shortlisted for the MacRobert Award by the Royal
Academy of Engineering for their work on a new life-saving armour system.
The nomination is for a ceramic protection system, developed and patented
by Dstl.

Lab Impex Systems announces signing of an intellectual property license deal on AWE technology

May 2011

18.05.2011 The Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) and Lab Impex Systems have joined forces to announce an intellectual property license deal which will see the launch of new equipment designed for monitoring radioactive particles in the air.

Prokyma wins top Bionow 2010 Innovation Award

November 2010

Prokyma has won the Bionow 2010 Innovation in Diagnostics Project of the Year Award. Bionow, the Northwest Regional Development Agency’s (NWDA) biomedical cluster support group, recently announced their annual Northwest Biomedical Awards with Prokyma, a Ploughshare spin-out, scooping the top Innovation prize.

Licensed by three of the largest hearing aid manufacturers, Aridion™ is transforming conventional levels of reliability by substantially reducing warranty failure and repair costs and ultimately increasing user confidence.

ESROE announced as latest Ploughshare spin-out

July 2010

Ploughshare is delighted to introduce ESROE, the latest spin-out company offering technology developed at Dstl. ESROE Software is the world’s only commercial, off-the-shelf (COTS) software for the real-time identification of radar signatures. The software is designed for a full range of military platforms, from armoured vehicles and UAVs, to large multi-role warships and surveillance aircraft, in all environments.

Innovative new vehicle armour developed

March 2010

Introducing holes into a new ultra-hard steel vehicle armour enhances its ballistic performance - weird but true. This new experimental armour steel, known as Super Bainite, was developed by the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl). Ploughshare is now working alongside the steel manufacturer Corus to bring it to market.

Ploughshare spin-out company in global agreement

February 2010

Tecan and Enigma Diagnostics, a Dstl/Ploughshare spin-out, sign a global manufacturing and supply agreement for point-of-care Molecular Diagnostics instruments. The Enigma ML instrument delivers fully-automated results from swab samples in less than 60 minutes at the point of care and to the same accuracy standards as reference laboratories, which can often take several days
