Video Face Recognition

Improve identification rates

A novel system for improving the performance of face recognition techniques for low quality video has been developed.
Current methods can work well for high quality video with little or no clutter. However, low quality and more challenging video data results are less satisfactory.
This system provides highly accurate tracking of individual faces within a video stream which results in increased identification rates.

‘Asunder’ - Interrogating Mixtures of Nucleic Acids

Improve results from complex DNA mixtures

The analysis of complex DNA mixtures containing three or more DNA profiles is a challenge in forensic DNA analysis.  Asunder is a proprietary method for interrogating mixtures of nucleic acids, it can identify the number of contributors in a mixture and their DNA profile, without any knowledge of the contributors or the contributors’ genotypes. Results have shown significant gains over existing methods of analysis.

Synthetic Aperture Radar System

Raise performance and reduce cost

A new concept for bi-static synthetic aperture radar (SAR), with a transmit-only satellite component, an airborne rebroadcasting and a ground based image processing component.

Method for Detection of Target Nucleic Acids Using PCR

Higher specificity and faster detection

Dstl has developed an assay method for detecting the presence of particular nucleic acid
sequences which may be adapted to quantify the amount of the target sequence in a sample.
Using an assay of this type, a fluorescent label becomes incorporated only into the amplification
product allowing delivery of higher specificity and faster detection of target nucleic acids for
methods such as qPCR.

Bright Source Protection

A means to reduce the adverse effects of bright light sources on image intensification devices as used in night vision sensors.  Dstl have developed an electro-optic protection measure (EOPM) that can be applied to an image intensification tube that employs simple material layers and control electronics that can spatially limit the photo-cathode response for bright areas in an imaged scene.

Anti-Dazzle Imaging Sensor

Saturation and blooming effects caused by high intensity light sources such as sunlight, welding arc, car head lamps or lasers if directed at an optical system or device, are a common problem.  They can cause degradation of image quality, loss of situational awareness for the user and often damage to the sensor pixel array. This invention relates to a charge transfer type imaging sensor that limits the transmission of radiation from high intensity light sources.

Noise Adaptive Feature Matching (NAFM) method

Improve matching accuracy

One of the major problems with matching measured signals to model signals is that the matching effectiveness can be badly compromised in the presence of noise in the measured signal. The NAFM method operates on statistical features of the signals, rather than the actual waveform shapes of the signals. The NAFM method can deliver a significant improvement in matching accuracy, particularly when large or varying amounts of noise are present in the measured signal, as is typical with the use of voice biometrics for mobile consumer devices.
