Phishing Protection

A new layer of defence against phishing attacks that protects organisations from data breaches.

Phishing attacks present a significant risk to organisations as they are not reliably blocked by cyber security software. In particular the Internationalised Domain Name (IDN) homograph attack which mimics genuine web links is difficult to detect. A novel approach is now available to automatically detect and disable these malicious links before they are presented to the user.

Novel Design Lightweight Collimator

A high-performance, low size, weight and power scanning beam collimator.

Collimators are a key component in high energy radiation (e.g. x-ray, particle beam) equipment however current designs for scanning (pencil) beams are subject to both performance and physical limitations. A new lightweight design overcomes these issues and produces higher resolution images while reducing mechanical complexity.

Body Worn Electronic Warfare Antenna

High performance body worn antennas for electronic warfare and communications.

Electronic Warfare (EW) equipment has traditionally employed large vertical omnidirectional antennas. However, they present operational challenges for their users as they are low gain, highly visible, and can limit manoeuvrability in operational environments. This new body worn antenna system overcomes these limitations, increases performance and reduces cost.

Facial recognition systems work well with high quality video and little or no clutter. However, when the image quality is poor or there is obscuration the performance reduces significantly. This enhanced system overcomes these challenging situations to provide improved recognition of people or objects.

‘Asunder’ - Interrogating Mixtures of Nucleic Acids

Improve results from complex DNA mixtures

The analysis of complex DNA mixtures containing three or more DNA profiles is a challenge in forensic DNA analysis.  Asunder is a proprietary method for interrogating mixtures of nucleic acids, it can identify the number of contributors in a mixture and their DNA profile, without any knowledge of the contributors or the contributors’ genotypes. Results have shown significant gains over existing methods of analysis.

Synthetic Aperture Radar System

Raise performance and reduce cost

A new concept for bi-static synthetic aperture radar (SAR), with a transmit-only satellite component, an airborne rebroadcasting and a ground based image processing component. 
This allows for a major increase in the performance of the satellite component, and significantly reduced cost of the processing component through the avoidance of space qualification of the computing power required to decode the SAR image.

Bright Source Protection

A means to reduce the adverse effects of bright light sources on image intensification devices as used in night vision sensors.  Dstl have developed an electro-optic protection measure (EOPM) that can be applied to an image intensification tube that employs simple material layers and control electronics that can spatially limit the photo-cathode response for bright areas in an imaged scene.

Anti-Dazzle Imaging Sensor

Saturation and blooming effects caused by high intensity light sources such as sunlight, welding arc, car head lamps or lasers if directed at an optical system or device, are a common problem.  They can cause degradation of image quality, loss of situational awareness for the user and often damage to the sensor pixel array. This invention relates to a charge transfer type imaging sensor that limits the transmission of radiation from high intensity light sources.

Super Bainite Armour Steel

A readily machinable ultra-high hardness steel designed for armour plating

Appliqué armour for fighting vehicles is both expensive and adds weight to the platform. Super Bainite Steel is a low cost ultra-high hardness steel that provides an alternative to current protective armour plate. During live fire trials it has demonstrated performance matching that of current high hardness armour steels and some ceramic armours.

  • Half the weight for the same level of protection compared with Rolled Homogeneous Armour (RHA)

Robust, easy to use device

A robust and easy to use device has been developed for swabbing surfaces and the sample run on several different lateral flow test strips. Counter airborne biological threats

Airborne biological threats pose a real and serious concern for both Departments of Defence and the Homeland Security markets.  Threats range from anthrax spores to biological toxins. Current methods to detect their presence are all liquid based (e.g. PCR, immunoassays).  Potential threat agents need to be efficiently extracted from the airborne state for onward liquid-based analysis, a potential threat detected by a “trigger” can then be assessed.

Pre-symptomatic Determination of Sepsis

Determine the onset of sepsis days before clinical symptoms appear in the patient.

Diagnosed cases of sepsis exceed 18 million a year with 1,400 patients dying daily in the developed world. Rapid treatment is critical to a patient’s recovery and therefore the time taken to diagnose sepsis is key. This technology can diagnose sepsis in the patient before symptoms appear which has the potential to save many lives and reduce economic costs.
