What is Technology Transfer?

‘Technology Transfer’ is an industry term for the transfer of technology from the originator of an idea or invention (Intellectual Property) to a secondary user, typically but not always, for commercial purposes. Ploughshare provides this service for Dstl in order to facilitate the development of the technology to a wider market this is usually through licencing or setting up of a new ‘spin-out’ company.

The majority of the intellectual property comes directly from Dstl’s in-house research programmes. Ploughshare also has access to intellectual property created from Dstl funded research carried out at universities and elsewhere.
