What is Technology Transfer?
Technology Transfer means the transfer of technology from the originator to a secondary user. In Ploughshare’s case, the objective of this activity is to either secure commercial gain in exchange for the technology, or facilitate the development of the technology for the benefit of the public.
The majority of the intellectual property comes directly from Dstl’s in-house research programmes. But Ploughshare may also have access to intellectual property created from Dstl funded research carried out at universities and elsewhere. Technology or IP may be transferred either to an existing company or to a newly formed company created specifically for its commercialisation (a “spin-out” company).
