Ploughshare CEO Pete Hotten is presenting at next month’s Defence Procurement Research, Technology and Exportability (DPRTE) 2013 event, focusing specifically on the research and technology knowledge transfer sector.
The one day event, which is to be held at the University of West England’s Exhibition and Conference Centre in Bristol on 20 November 2013, showcases innovative defence procurement for both buyers and suppliers.
Ploughshare Innovations Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), will be presenting on the commercial licencing to industry of Dstl’s Intellectual Property.
Dstl will also be hosting a series of presentations in the research and technology knowledge transfer zone, with topics including cyber, enabling contracts, Dstl’s Centre for Innovation, Defence Human Capability Science and Technology Centre (DHC STC) and Maritime Collaborative Enterprise (MarCE).
Dstl’s programme and delivery Director, Richard Brooks, is also due to deliver a presentation entitled ‘Dstl does research into military technologies and a lot of other cool stuff too’, in the keynote arena about Dstl’s different areas of work, which range from work with wider Government to research into military technologies and security. “We helped plan security for the Olympics, we sponsor PhDs in the UK and abroad, we work with other parts of Government to help small, innovative companies bring their goods to market and we spin-out defence technologies to create wealth for the nation,” Mr Brooks confirmed.
There will be a number of opportunities for suppliers to get involved and find out about work programmes and available funding, throughout the day - Dstl will have a corporate stand at the event, located next to the research and technology knowledge transfer zone. The stand will be staffed by representatives from Dstl who will be available to talk to suppliers.
The event offers a unique opportunity to “engage directly with the defence procurement community,” the DPRTE website confirmed. It will also help to develop an understanding of the very latest opportunities, developments and initiatives that are currently taking place within this evolving and highly lucrative marketplace.
DPRTE 2013 is also due to host a series of workshops in order to facilitate knowledge transfer relating to innovation, and to encourage continuous learning and collaboration. The workshops will be held at one of four dedicated Knowledge Transfer Zones, entitled Business Growth & Export; Prime Contractor Supply Chain; Research & Technology and Buyer Procurement Excellence.
Other keynote speakers at this year’s event include Steven Morgan, director of commercial operations at DE&S and Richard Blake, deputy head commercial at the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO).
